1. Why do cash-pay clinics look for a DrChrono alternative?

Usually for three reasons: the price is a quote rather than a number, the clinic’s revenue is memberships and packages rather than claims, and the bill grows with add-ons.

DrChrono’s pricing page lists three plans, Foundation, Growth and Premium, and asks you to request a quote for each. The figures it does publish are add-ons and overages: extended lab integration at $30 per provider per month, and usage beyond the plan’s limits at 5 cents a text, 7 cents a faxed page and 10 cents a call. The page does not state a contract length. The site footer names the owner as EverHealth Solutions Inc., doing business as DrChrono.

None of that makes DrChrono a bad system. It is a full EHR with a long history, and a practice that bills insurance heavily has good reasons to stay. The fit question for a cash-pay clinic is different: does the system run memberships, packages, payments and a patient app as well as it runs a claim, and can you know the price before the sales call?

2. DrChrono and Aminova, side by side

Both include unlimited staff accounts. The differences are a published price, what is included versus added on, and who the product is built around.

DrChrono (as published, Oct 2026) Aminova
Plan price Not published; request a quote $199/mo with 1 prescribing provider and 1 AI scribe seat; +$99/mo per extra prescriber; $99/mo for the first 3 months for new clinics billed monthly
Staff accounts Unlimited on all three plans Unlimited; front desk, nurses and MAs never cost a seat
AI scribe Add-on on Foundation and Growth, part of Premium; price not published 1 seat included with Prescribing; extra seats $49/mo
Lab integration Two national labs listed; extended lab network $30 per provider per month Labs ordered and returned into the chart, included
Telehealth Listed as a feature Built in, started from the appointment
Data migration “Dependent upon the format of the data to be transferred” Included in the $250 activation
Contract length Not stated on the pricing page Month-to-month, cancel any time

The fair reading of that table: DrChrono’s staff policy is as generous as ours, and its Premium plan includes a scribe. Where it is harder to compare is everything with a price on it, because the plan prices are not public. Ask for the quote in writing, with the add-ons you will actually use, and put it next to our published pricing.

3. What is actually in a DrChrono export?

More than a spreadsheet, and less than the chart you see on screen. We have moved a practice from DrChrono to Aminova, and these are the things the export taught us that a buyer should know before switching, whoever they switch to.

What you expect What the export actually holds
One patient file A folder per patient, each holding dozens of tables, many of them empty
Notes as data Signed visit notes as PDFs; unsigned notes may have no PDF at all
Every lab as numbers Results from the lab feed as rows; results that were uploaded as PDFs stay PDFs
Vitals in a vitals table Often only a few rows; measurements recorded in note text stay in the note
A clean allergy list “No known allergies” can be stored as an allergy entry, which a naive import reads as an allergen
Lab results named by test Each result carries both the ordered panel and the individual marker; import the wrong one and every line reads “Lipid Panel”

None of this is a flaw in DrChrono so much as the normal gap between a working chart and an export. It matters because a migration promise that only covers demographics and appointments leaves you with the notes as a pile of PDFs, the labs half structured and the allergy list wrong. Ask any new vendor which of the rows above they handle, and how they check them.

For how we read an export in general — rules first, AI suggestions for the leftover columns, and a person approving every match — see how AI imports your old EMR, forms and consents.

4. Which other DrChrono alternatives do clinics compare?

Cash-pay clinics leaving DrChrono usually shortlist systems built for integrative, wellness and aesthetic practice rather than another general-purpose EHR. We have written up the common ones, each costed only on the vendor’s own published pricing:

OptiMantra alternatives, Cerbo alternatives, Practice Better alternatives, and a four-way comparison in Aminova vs Healthie vs OptiMantra vs Practice Better. If you are scoring several at once, how to evaluate clinic software gives one sheet to score them all on.

5. When should you stay on DrChrono?

If most of your revenue is insurance claims and your billing team knows the system, the cost of moving may be larger than the gain.

Aminova is built for cash-pay clinics first. Insurance billing is available and priced with each clinic, and superbills are included on every plan, but a claims-heavy practice should weigh a switch against what its billers already do well. The same goes for a practice that has built years of custom templates and is happy with them: a move is a project, and it should buy you something specific.

The clinics for whom a switch tends to pay off are the ones whose day is memberships, packages, recurring programmes, in-clinic payments and a patient app, and who want to know the monthly number before they talk to anyone.

6. How does a move from DrChrono to Aminova work?

You request the export from DrChrono, we read it, you approve what we found, and nothing is final until you have checked it.

Step Who What happens
1. Export You Request the full patient export, plus your form and consent PDFs
2. Read Us Map every table, including the traps above, and show you what was found
3. Approve You Confirm the mapping before anything is written to a chart
4. Check You Open charts and compare them with DrChrono before you go live
5. Live Both Your plan starts the day you go live, not the day you sign

The work is included in the $250 activation on the Prescribing plan. It is not a separate migration fee, and it is not free either; we would rather say exactly what it is. Most clinics are live within days, and the timeline depends mostly on how quickly the export arrives. For what any vendor’s migration promise should cover, see what free EMR data migration really includes.

7. Frequently asked questions

What is the best DrChrono alternative for a cash-pay clinic?
One that publishes its price, does not charge per staff member, includes an AI scribe, and can show you how your DrChrono export will be read. Aminova is built for cash-pay hormone, longevity, weight-loss, IV and med spa clinics; compare it against the others on your shortlist on the same sheet.

How much does DrChrono cost?
DrChrono does not publish plan prices; its pricing page asks you to request a quote for Foundation, Growth and Premium. It does publish some add-ons, such as extended lab integration at $30 per provider per month, as of October 2026.

Can I export my data from DrChrono?
Yes. Expect a folder per patient with many tables, signed notes as PDFs, and some labs and measurements that exist only as PDFs or note text. Ask your new vendor how each of those is handled.

Does DrChrono charge for staff accounts?
Its pricing page lists staff accounts as unlimited on all three plans, as of October 2026. Aminova also includes unlimited staff.

How long does it take to switch from DrChrono to Aminova?
Most clinics are live within days once the export arrives. The data move is included in the $250 activation on the Prescribing plan, and your monthly plan starts the day you go live.
